2. Video Game Writer

3. Game Developer

If you’re interested in coding and creating your own programs, then being a developer is probably the right thing for you.

You’d be programming software from scratch, assembling platforms & engines as well as writing the code for the game itself. Developers work very closely with the team to implement features while ensuring that the production runs smoothly along the way. Not only that but you also have to solve problems, fix bugs and push the limits of your game to achieve the best results possible. 4. Concept Artist

If you like drawing, no matter if it’s traditionally or digitally then why not become a Concept Artist? They design everything from characters, creatures, vehicles over to environments, weapons, props, and any other creative assets you can imagine.

This is used to visualize an idea in a way that modelers, animators, VFX artists, and the rest of the team can bring the concept to life. For one design an artist often makes multiple if not dozens of different drawings and iteration until the art director is satisfied with the outcome and they can move on to the next step. 5. 3D Artist

6. Environment Artist

If you always loved to play around with map editors, created ex- and interior environments for various games rather than actually play it, why not become an Environment Artist?

Unlike a 3D Artist, they have specialized in making a believable world for the player to discover. Your job is to put together modular built assets to create an environment that keeps the player from falling through the world and that invites them to explore. 7. Level Designer

Some might think that a Level Designer and an Environment Artist are the same, but while they work closely together, their jobs are different.

A Level Designer’s goal is to guide the player through the world using visual storytelling, objectives, lights, colors and so much more while keeping it as subtle as possible. The person playing should still feel as if it was their decision to go down a particular path. 8. Animator

If you love animated movies like Disney & Pixar and the idea of bringing your own character to life has always fascinated you, then you should look into the art of animation.

Creating storyboards for scenes, using and making references for all different kinds of motions and making those animations believable for the viewer are key to becoming a great animator. This job is not only confined to strict animations but they also get to design backgrounds and characters depending on the project they are working on. 9. Game VFX Artist

You always loved the tech behind special effects like fire & explosions and you find yourself constantly mesmerized with how particles float around in space more than the character running through them?Then being a VFX Artist is just up your alley.

They are in charge of finalizing the look of the game and bringing it all together. From the skill a character is using to the castle that is crumbling down around them. Create shaders, particles and lighting to really give a scene the finishing touch and to polish the look of the game so players get drawn in even more.

10. Game Sound Designer

If you love soundtracks and have an interest in music, then aiming for the job as a Sound Designer is probably the right way to go.

They create everything from the background music during a fight to simple sound effects like gunshots in an encounter or cars driving by. You’ll be creating a library of tracks & samples while implementing them into the game together with the team.
